New Interactive Training Tool to help turn students into the new generation of oil workers.
NSL are in the final stages of developing an interactive training tool delivered in the style of an interactive game. It is aimed at giving students a taste of what working in the Oil and Gas Industry is all about. Students visit a virtual offshore oil platform, look around the various modules and complete some of the tasks they might be asked to perform whilst working offshore.
The game covers all the subjects addressed in the OPITO MIST Standard and more, and also meets the requirements of API RP T-1 Orientation Programmes for Personnel Going Offshore for the First Time.
GAME FEATURES:
Introduction to Oil & Gas – Formation of Oil & Gas, how it is located, processing methods and how it is brought ashore. This is followed by a quiz on the subject.
Travelling Offshore – Covers procedures at the Heli-terminal or Dock, including Health, Safety & Environment, suitable dress, behaviour, security and standard procedures. The transfer to the installation then takes places via boat or helicopter.
Arriving on the Platform – Safety induction and cabins, muster points and lifeboat stations. The platform alarm system is also explained.
Tasks – There are six individual modules based in different areas of the platform that feature tasks to be completed while offshore. Each task involves the creation of a method statement, followed by a risk assessment before the actual task is performed.
Alarms – At any point during the game, one of three safety alarms will be activated; fire, toxic gas or combustible gas. The student must recognise the specific alarm and choose the correct response.
Extra Safety Points – Hidden throughout the game will be a number of safety transgressions, spills, dropped objects, unsafe behaviour, etc. Spotting these and acting on them will score extra points.
We strongly believe that using this interactive tool will enable students to confidently go offshore for the first time with a high awareness of the hazards and a good understanding and acceptance of the strict safety regime.
